7 Reasons the Minnesota Vikings MAY Win the NFC-North

Okay, Okay, as a lifelong Packers fan, it kills me to even talk about this, but let’s be real. We can hold a grudge against Brent Favre, oh I mean Brett Favre for as long as we want, but that changes nothing. His addition to the Minnesota Vikings has invigorated that team, given it another lethal weapon in an already full arsenal. I watched Favre play just over two quarters in tonight’s game (yeah, it’s like coming onto an accident, I just can’t stop watching him) and he looked solid and confident and made some decent plays.
So, the way I see it, here are 7 potential reasons Minnesota MAY win the NFC-North and even make it all the way to the Super Bowl.
1. Brett Favre – He needs to only be ”effective” for the Vikings to be successful. He doesn’t have to do it all himself. He will make teams regret zeroing in too much on Peterson and the team’s running game. That’s just the time he has the ability to throw long and make the big play.
2. Adrian Peterson – As long as I’ve mentioned him, let’s talk about the Vikings running game. In Adrian they have arguably the best running back in the NFL. He will have another great year, again at the top of the league in rushing. With Favre on board, he will produce more touchdowns as well.
3. Visanthe Shaincoe – Again, I know I sound like a broken record, with the addition of a veteran quarterback and Minnesota’s well established running game, this experienced tight end should have a career year. While defenses are attempting to stop the running game by rotating players into the box, Visanthe will find himself in the middle of the field with only single coverage and that should leave him open to some big plays.
4. Heath Farwell – Farwell is returning off of an injury from last season. He is the Vikings Special Teams Captain and is one of the best special teamers in the league. He will pull together the incompetant looking special teams players and I would bet we’ll see big things from them as well.
5. The Best Run Defense in Football – Let me see: Kevin Williams, Pat Williams, Jared Allen, Chad Greenway, EJ Henderson, Antoine Winfield, Cedric Griffin, Ben Leber … need I say more. Experts say that a team’s defense wins championships, so here they come Super Bowl fans!
6. The Metrodome – The crowd noise and the great “weather” conditions are two more factors that will help the offense be successful.
7. The NFC – With the Vikings playing in the weaker of the two conferences, that alone could give them a head start for the season and get them deep into the playoffs (if you have any questions about this 7th item, I refer you back to last season’s Arizona Cardinals).
As much as I want to see the Packers in the playoffs and ultimately the Super Bowl, we have our work cut out for us. We will tackle our games one at a time, but I’m just saying we need to bring our “A” game on October 5th and November 1st when we meet these guys on the field. Go Packers!
Sound off! Am I wrong?
