madisongiftwrappedMost people who have enough money to buy themselves material things don’t really want gifts.  I now believe that the best gift a person can give is their time – which no one has these days – which makes it a very rare gift!

Let me explain.  Last year a friend of mine suggested a coupon book (one that she put together herself) for my mother when I was trying to figure out something special to buy for her for Christmas.  She doesn’t have unlimited money, but buys what she wants when she wants it.  What do you buy for someone like that?

At the time, I thought it was a goofy idea but after her parents talked about it for the entire year I decided I would try it this year.  There were 4 kids in their family so each of them took 3 months of the year and made a special time for the parents for 1 day out of that month.  One month was a dinner and movie (with treats), one month was an evening of playing cards, one month was a Christmas light tour of the city (with rootbeer floats), etc.  You get the picture.

Sometimes it’s hard to set aside a special time for someone you care about and this way you have it at least narrowed down to the month!  We have 6 children in our family so it will give us 2 months each.

There are many different ways you can go with this whether it’s a Christmas present, birthday present, or some other occasion.  Be creative!  I will let you know how this works for us.

If you have any other suggestions for someone who has everything, please tell us.

If you go the traditional route for buying gifts, here are a bunch of department stores in our local Madison area.
